Amalia Vrana is a trained architect who has been living and working in London. Fashion has always been a passion for her and so she attended a fashion design course at Central Saint Martins, which marked the starting point of her first swimwear collection in 2018. Architecture still plays an important part in her work and continues to inspire her designs. She appreciates balance and simplicity, minimalism and shades of white, simple shapes and prints. All printed fabrics are designed in-house.

There are three collections; the Classic Collection with our signature pieces, the Veldt Collection, with African-inspired designs and animal prints, and the latest Vythós Collection, (Vythós is the Greek word for seabed), inspired by the underwater world, sea organisms and colours.

AV works hard to understand its context and improve its supply chain by collaborating with artisanal producers, using organic packaging, and donating a section of profits to sea-related environmental NGOs. We try to keep production small and handmade, and were fortunate enough to recently have the ELLE Young Talents Awards for “Fashion Innovation”, because of this focus. This year the label introduced new recycled fabrics for selected pieces, as well as bespoke hardware and details made from recycled plastic. AV Swimwear seeks to use only recycled fabrics for their next collections, and from 2021 onwards.

SUSTAINABILITY

Every time an AV swimsuit is purchased, 5% goes to cleaning the oceans supporting these NGOs:

  • The Surf Rider Foundation

  • The Blu

  • 5 Gyres

  • Oceana

AV Swimwear embraces the Slow Fashion concept through limited pieces, high quality certified textiles and materials, and durable products. Designed for longevity, creating classic, minimal style that can be worn throughout the years. All pieces are handmade and 100% produced in Greece, supporting local manufacturers, producers and craftsmen.

MATERIALS & WASTE

Designed using luxury Italian and Greek fabrics, partnered with complex construction and considered details. This year AV Swimwear introduced ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated nylon made from abandoned fishing nets and nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world. All fabrics are certified under STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®

Sustainable packaging: all our packaging is from natural, eco-friendly, recyclable materials. All swimwear come in organic bags that can be re-used or recycled by our customers.

Sustainable labelling: Price tags, marketing cards and other marketing material (when necessary) is made from recycled/organic paper. We try to minimise the use of paper and make NO USE of plastic

Recycling: Customers who bring back to us your used/old AV products, receive a 5% discount on their next purchase.
